Mae Sariang District

It is the old district of Mae Hong Son province where is the place that gather many races of hill tribes from many eras.  It is also the important historical of Lanna in long years ago. It was considered as the representative district of civilization and the natural places that completed with all the beauty of forests, mountains, and rivers in the south of Mae Hong Son province. Therefore, you shout not miss your chance to have a visit and see.

Salawin National Park.
Covering a forested area of 721 square kilometers, the Salawin National Park is on the bank of the Salween or Salawin River on the Thai-Myanmar border, about 164 kilometers south of Mae Hong Son. It is blessed with rich natural resources such as rivers, mountains and forests. The Salawin River originates from Tibet before winding through China, Thailand and Myanmar for a total distance of more than 3,000 kilometers.  The river is regarded as the borderline between Myanmar and Thailand for a distance of 120 kilometers.
Visitors wishing to take a boat along the river or camping have to contact the park headquarters for their safety during the journey. The headquarters also provide accommodation and other facilities. The best time for boat trip is from March to April when the water level is low  and sandy beaches appear.  Sceneries along the riverbanks are captivating with fertile forest , mountains covering with white fog especially during winter and dotted with small hamlets.

Salawin River
It is a big river that the headwaters was created from Tibet highland and then flows through China, Myanmar and finally becomes the borderline between Thai and Myanmar in Mae Hong Son province. It flows through Mae Lanoi district, Mae Sarieng district, and Sob Moei at the borderline of Thai – Myanmar altogether are 120 km.. In Summer the melting of snow from mountain ranges in Tibet will make Salawin river much clearer, but in Cold it will cover of a lot of fog throughout the river, of course, it is amazing beauty, and alternates with the change of color of the forest due to shed leaves of the trees it makes more beauty to the forest in this area. Moreover, the lower of the level tide in Cold and summer can make you see the beautiful white beaches of two sides of the river banks including big and small hill rocks.  It is very suitable to pitch a tent on the beach for the tourists who want to admire the nature ,besides, you can take a boat to go along the river for sightseeing. For the tourists who want to pitch the tent can do at Baan Ta Fung which is the village along the Salawin river bank.    

Social Development Centre no.43 and Mae Haw Mexican Sunflower Field
Located along the highway 108 at the km. no. 84-85, in Mae Haw sub district which is one of the very famous places of Buatong field (Mexican Sunflower) in Mae Hong Son province. The tourists can see the color of flowers that bloom with yellow along both sides of the road as if they would like to welcome all the tourists who go to visit the place and Mae Hong Son province. Inside the place there will be 5 races of hill tribes houses and life styles shows, including all the cultures of each of them and also they provide you some traditional dresses for  one who wants to dress yourself as same as them.  All over the area will grow a lot of winter plants which are difficult to see from other places, and they still provide you some very tasty coffee to taste and drink.

Mae Sawan Noi Waterfall
It is also one of the very beautiful waterfalls that has never been seen before, located in Mae Sawan Noi Waterfall national park area. Since you have to reach the uppermost stage of the waterfall first, therefore, in admiring the waterfall you have to see from upper stage to lower stage.  There is water flowing all year, each of small and big stages has its different beauty in itself. It is one of the waterfalls that is very worth visiting.
    
Phratat Jomthong Temple
It is invaluable temple, inside the temple is placed Luang Phaw To, the big buddha image, which is the biggest in Mae Hong Son province. It is 10 m. in width and 15 m.in height, moreover, it has obtained Lanna architecture style which is different from other temples in Mae Hong Son that are always in Shan’s style.  In the area around, the tourists can see the good scenery throughout Mae Sarieng town.

Phratat Jomkitti Temple
It is one of very old temples in Khunyuam subdistrict, Mae Sarieng district.  It has been worshipped by the people for many centuries ago.
It was built around the year of B.E.2256. in the area of 80 rai (Thai measure) with Lanna architecture style. It is also the place contained the relic of Buddha, and there will be the celebration every year on the eighth of the waxing moon in June.

Phratat Jom Mon Temple
One of a very old Lanna style temples that is very well-known among the people. There is the old pagoda on the high hill where you can look around the lower scenery that have a lot of houses, farms, and Yuam stream which hides itself and flowing windingly along the out of sight complicated valleys. This temple is considered as one sacred, invaluable temple of Mae Sarieng people. There will be the celebration in every year of July.

Phratat Jom Jang Temple
It is a mixed character temple with different beautiful details from other temples, however, it still maintains the Lanna architecture. Therefore, the tourists can go to see its beauty and make worship at Baan Jomjang
Before entering Mae Sarieng district. 

Jong Suung Temple or Utayarom Temple
It was built in the year of B.E.2381 inside the temple there are 3 old pagodas for the tourists to see and study.  The middle pagoda is originally an old pagoda which has a half left, but later it was restored in the year of 2499 B.E. there is a turtle golden casket to keep the relic of Buddha, besides, there still be 9 Buddha’s which are covered by the pagoda provided for the tourists to make a worship.  Furthermore, there is also the worship tradition in the third month on the full moon day of every year.  

Sri Boonrueng Temple
Sri Boonrueng temple or Jong Maag Kang temple according to Shan’s name. It is a very delicate and beautiful in engraving all the details on the zinc roof which pile up to be levels in Shan’s style.  It was built in the year of B.E.2450 by Phra Wichai (Wichai monk), it is quite narrow area but can attract the tourists by its unique and nice decoration.

Santhong Temple
The prominent point of the temple is: it is the place where  the 2 beautiful Buddha’s were placed, one of them  is “Phra Pet” or known as Phra Singha 1, it is a very nice Buddha which founded of bronze 12 inch. wide and the other is “Phra Santhong” it is also a very beautiful Buddha in Chiengsan style with 24 inch. wide.  Every year in Song Graan festival these two Buddha’s will be paraded in order to let the villagers to pour the water. It is believed by the villagers that it will be auspiciousness to themselves in doing that, the tourists can also participate with this festival.
